The student shall however finish his school year before entering the A squad. Hence he will not be a full fletched A squad player until July 1st, Rosenborg reports on their home page. RBK wants to make sure that Skjelbred can finish his two last years of secondary education.
"Rosenborg hope and believe that Per will have a really great progress that in time will give him the opportunity to establish himself onto the A-team", one can read.
Per Ciljan Skjelbred (born June 16th 1987) was a mini-celebrity already two years ago when he won the broadcaster TV3's contest "Pro Dream". That same autumn he transfered from local club Trygg/Lade to Rosenborg's junior team.
There, the midfielder has developed further, and is now established as captain at the G17 National squad. Skjelbred made his first appearance at the Rosenborg A squad in a friendly versus Sel/Otta last June, while the first goal - a real blower into the goal's corner - came in a friendly against Kongsvinger this March. That was his first match from start as well.
It remains to see how long it takes before Ola By Rise lets the youngster have his debute in an official match.
"Per is only 16, but I feel that we have to let him have a try in some single games the coming years, so that he will be a very good player when he reaches 18," By Rise said to rbkweb.com earlier in April.
