Difficult for Ørjan and Roar
By Håvard Lindheim, 29 September 2004, 08:46

Ørjan Berg went to his miracle doctor in Fauske, while Roar Strand struggles with his leg. Two of three midfielders can miss the Arsenal match.

For Ørjan Berg, this isn't a new situation. Prior to the away match against Benfica in February, specialist Harald Skogvoll made the RBK veteran fit for fight.

"Skogvoll use a pure massage method. He uses his hands only, and works the muscles that are too tight. The margins are small," RBK specialist Sigbjørn Hammer has told earlier.

Skogvoll is to treat hurting muscles, that have been through very tough restitutional training. Berg's hurtful left knee, however, can't be treated.

Problems at today's training session
Three key players had problems at today's training session. Ørjan Berg jogged around a bit; Vidar Riseth gave in after a small hour, while Roar Strand didn't participate at all. Riseth struggles with a hurting back, but is declared well.

"Yes, we feel that we have control on Vidar's situation," Ola By Rise confirmed at yesterday's press conference at Lerkendal.

In other words, the big question now is wether Berg and Strand will be ready. The last mentioned is yet again struggling with a stiffness in the back side of his right leg, a damage causing him to miss the two National team matches agains Italy and Belarus some weeks ago.

"If you want some percentages for the likeliness of Roar playing, you will have to call my good friend Egil Olsen. I studied English and have no clue when it comes to such stuff. But let us say 70-40 in favour of Roar," Ola By smiled.

Could not have played yesterday

UNSURE: Ørjan Berg still don't know wether he can play against Arsenal.

When it comes to Ørjan Berg, his left knee is still not well after having been hit by Olivier Occean last weekend.

"After Skogvoll's treatment I couldn't use the leg fully today. We'll have to test it tomorrow. But anyway, it is better than it was," Berg says.

Could you have played if the match was today?, he was then asked.

"No, I couldn't. But I still believe that I can be ready. I have played with a hurtful knee earlier, and if the knee doesn't hinder me, I will play."

The midfield veteran still does not think that RBK is fully dependant upon him.

"Rosenborg isn't dependant upon single players, and has never been. We are well prepared even if I have to pass," Ørjan Berg states.

Possible replacements?

Even if two out of three midfielders were uncertain one day prior to the game, Rosenborg does not think this is dramatic. Assistant coach Per Joar Hansen is calm as usual.

"The damage situation is always overrated before games like these. We'll see if Ørjan and Roar gets ready. If not, we have several possible alternatives," 'Perry' says to rbkweb.com.

Hansen will not say wether it is Fredrik Winsnes or Jan Gunnar Solli that will replace Berg in the central midfield. Christer George can be the third midfielder if both Strand and Berg have to pass.

"Nevertheless, the chosen ones must solve the role in their own way," Per Joar Hansen finishes.

PS! Christer Basma is declared well and fit for fight - if he's picked, that is.
