Facts from the L'Equipe
Nils Arne Eggen gave a very young "Beto" some tries as a right wingman during the 1991 season. The next season he was turned into a side back. That became a success, and for the seasons 1993-1996 he was a regular as right back at Lerkendal.

The autumn of '96 Bjørn Tore wanted to try something new, and decided to use the options given by the then-fresh Bosman case. He was more or less in agreement with Stabæk, when Liverpool suddenly signaled interest just prior to the now famous away game against AC Milan. Kvarme spent some days on trial in England before joining Rosenborg's camp in France, in the days before the Milan match.

Just afterwards, Liverpool decided to go for it, and offered the Rosenborg back a contract. In January '97 Bjørn Tore Kvarme became the first to leave Lerkendal for free, as a Bosman player.

Kvarme's career abroad has had its ups and downs. After a great start in Liverpool, things went gradually downhill until he signed for French St. Etienne in summer 1999. After two seasons as a first choice central defender, the position he has had since then, his journey continued to Spanish Primera Division football and Real Sociedad. Bjørn Tore and his family enjoyed the Basque area, and he had success on the field as well. As many might remember, Beto and Sociedad almost snatched the league title from Real Madrid during the 2002/03-season: the championship was decided in the last round.

Last summer, Bjørn Tore Kvarme was a Bosman player yet again, and for a while, RBK was an option. Instead he chose to sign a one year contract with French club Bastia. That was not a wise move. The Kvarme family simply didn't like Corsica, and despite the fact that the head of the family played for much of the autumn (10 of 19 league games), Bastia now have agreed to release the player.

As mentioned, both RBK and Lyn now have offered the veteran defender a contract. It is expected that Kvarme makes his decision within short; perhaps within this week.
