Feyenoord - Rosenborg 4-1
By Håvard Lindheim, 17 Januar 2005, 11:08

With three goals against in 12 minutes in the first half, Rosenborg's fate was sealed: It was to be a great loss against Ruud Gullit's men.

During Monday's game vs Sparta Praha, RBK managed to make the defensive errors right by netting three times. This day, the defensive problems vere back, and nothing could hide them.

Per Joar Hansen made three changes to Monday's team: Ivar Rønningen for Espen Johnsen, Jan Gunnar Solli for Alexander Tettey, and Per Ciljan Skjelbred for Roar Strand.

Seven minutes old, the match saw Feyenoord's first score. The Dutch were awarded a penalty as goalgetter Dirk Kuyt fell in a duel with Christer Basma. The TV cameras couldn't give a definite answer as to what happened, but it looked dubious. Anyway, Kuyt took the penalty and scored.

Then followed two fast goals. Autumn 1999 saw Erik Hoftun getting outrun by Bonaventure Kalou. Tonight, little brother Salomon did the same. Little-Kalou, forward as his brother, played unselfish and passed in to Danko Lazovic, who chipped the ball over an outcoming Rønningen. Two minutes later, the mentioned Kuyt ran through again, and scored easily - alone with the RBK goalkeeper. Possibly an offside; definitely too easy.

Feyenoord had a firm grip on Rosenborg during the first half, but still, RBK managed to score: In a duel with Thorstein Helstad, left back Pascal Bosschaart managed to put a Ståle Stensaas crosser behind his own keeper. Actually a great goal ...

After the break, some things were repeated from the Spara game: the opponent started trying out inexperienced players, and as a result, Rosenborg got stronger. RBK had much possession, but struggled to create good chances. The two greatest were signed substitutes Harald Brattbakk and Roar Strand, with a good free kick and a great shot after a run from the midfield - a thypical "Strand run".

But instead, Feyenoord completed the humiliation on extra time, as Ebi Smolarek shot past Ivar Rønningen.

Wether Perry and Eggen like it or not: some lections in how to defend should be done before the first mandatory game of the season, against Esbjerg on Feb 12th...
