Lyn - Rosenborg 3-2
By Håvard Lindheim, 14 June 2005, 11:42
May 8th: Three times, the Lyn players were allowed to stand unmarked in front of the goal when the passes came. The punishment was hard for Rosenborg.
Five minutes before full time, RBK had a 2-1 lead at Ullevaal. Then, the home team turned the game around with two fast scores, and beat Rosenborg in a league game for the first time since 1968. Bitter for us - but fair, seen with Lyn eyes.
As with the Åråsen match previous Sunday, Rosenborg had two different halves this night as well. Against Lillestrøm, the guests were best after the break - this time, it was the other way around.
RBK were in control during the first half, and the new right side with Daniel Braaten and Mikael Dorsin worked well. This was the duo that made the leading goal for Rosenborg two minutes before the rest: Braaten dribbled and passed back to Dorsin, who cut in and hammered away with his good left foot from 25 meters. The ball got a nice bend and turned in at the far post. Way to go, Micke!
The second half was a completely different history.
RBK immediately got punched. Jo Terssem came round on the left and made a pass to forward colleague Jan Derek Sørensen. The old Lerkendal hero was allowed to stand waiting at the far post and head the ball in. Way too easy!
And it was to be worse. With Erik Hoftun back on the team after the quaranteen against Start, Per Joar Hansen chose to place Frode Johnsen on the central midfield. This didn't work especially well during the winter, and after one half this night it broke down again: The running midfielders Strand and Solli struggled to find their places, and Rosenborg's midfield was overrun by Lyn's central players. When this important part of the team fails, so does the rest of the team, and RBK got a tough time during all of the second half.
Against the flow of the game, RBK took the lead again: "Comical Ali" Al-Habsi in the Lyn goal didn't notice Frode Johnsen, who came running across the field, and hence a pass meant for Steven Lustü ended in the Rosenborg player's feet. Johnsen did what he should, and lobbed the pall over the Lyn keeper's head.
Lyn never gave up, tough, and as the match neared its end, Henning Berg's men got it right: First, the Finnish Keijo Huusko could head in 2-2. Three minutes later, Christer Basma gave away a free kick down by the corner flag. Derek struck in, and Stefan Gislason rose up to give Lyn their third head-made goal for the night.
"Never change a winning team," they say. Perhaps Perry should have given that a tought prior to this game...
Anyway, Vålerenga is now seven points ahead, and the road to a new gold doesn't seem easy, to put it that way.
