Høgmo victorious in home debut
By Håvard Lindheim, 19 August 2005, 13:15

The friendly against city "rival" Ranheim ended in a comfortable 7-1 victory when Per-Mathias Høgmo lead the team for the first time at Lerkendal.

NOT IMPRESSED: In spite of the huge win, Høgmo and Hansen observed much that must be improved.

"The attacking part of the game was, at times, great today. We saw many good movements in the attacks, and Ørjan steered the midfield like only he can," Høgmo boasted to rosenborg.info after the game.

RBK have this weekend off due to the Cup Quarter finals, and as a result, an "extended internal battle" against neighbouring Ranheim was set up Thursday afternoon. 3 x 25 minutes of football against a 2nd divition team was useful for RBK.

"It is important for me as a new coach to see the players in their usual roles. I acchieved this today," Høgmo says, who returned to the 4-3-3 formation after having tried 4-2-3-1 with various amounts of luck in his two first games.

"The principles in the two formations are the same, but now it is all about getting the most from the players we have. And that is best done in 4-3-3," the new boss at Lerkendal says.

This friendly against Ranheim did however show that more is needed to get RBK back on track than a familiar formation:

"After having lost the ball, we must work even harder. We must improve lots in positioning ourselves at the correct side of the opponent with the ball, and also getting much closer to this opponent," Høgmo states.

Now, he has three training sessions left (Friday, Sunday and Monday) to fine-tune these details, before the exam against Steaua Bucuresti in the Champions League Qualification match on Tuesday.

PS! With Alejandro Lago attending the Uruguayan squad, and Bjørn Tore Kvarme, Miika Koppinen and Robbie Russell out with injuries, Jan Gunnar Solli had to play in the right back position today.
