Battle plan ready
By Endre Bakken, 22 June 2006, 18:35

Too many games in the first half of the season yielded only one point. This fall Rosenborg are going to start winning again.

RBK will begin the fall season as number four in the league with fifteen points. The distance between RBK and league leader Brann is ten points. In the other direction only four points seperate Rosenborg from Start, who, in their current place, would be relegated. The starting point could definitively have been better.

"We must stabilize our performances. Our play has wavered between very good to bad. Injuries is one of the reasons for this. In the second league game against Start, Roar Strand, Daniel Braaten and Miika Koppinen all became injured. Such things have an impact," Per-Mathias Høgmo told rosenborg.info.

At the same time, many players have the potential to improve greatly.

"In our offensive play all the players must be completely dedicated, must want to play good games, and must want to train well. It is the only way to achieve stability," Høgmo explained.

Before the season began the RBK-coach wanted the central defenders to become more involved in building up the attacks. This tactic has not worked too well.

"We have become too predictable. The defenders have played too many short passes to themselves, which has resulted in the team being slowed down and giving the opponents too much time.

"Now we are working on increasing the pace of the game. To accomplish this, we must have an agressive and good defensive play. That way we can regain the ball more often and do fast counter-attacks. I want to focus more on counter-attacks," he told.

Jan Gunnar Solli was in advance given the role of "boss of the midfield", but this experiment did not work out either. Instead older players have had to help out.

"I wish to continue like we did in the great match against Brann. Roar Strand, Ørjan Berg and Per Ciljan Skjelbred played well together. Ørjan's experience is worth much. He is in fairly good shape, but we are not sure how much play he can handle considering the ancle injury he recently recovered from. It is all about finding the right balance," Per-Mathias Høgmo concluded.
