"Must strengthen the defence"
By Håvard Lindheim, 30 June 2006, 12:41

Saturday, the summer transfer window opens. Per-Mathias Høgmo primarily hunts a new central defender.

"We work on strengthening the back four. As Miika Koppinen still is not fit for matches, we have very few alternatives. Only two central defenders are available, and we need to respond to this challenge," the Rosenborg coach tells rosenborg.info.

In the view of the current situation RBK has shown interest for two young Swedes, Karl Svensson (IFK Göteborg) and Mikael Antonsson (Austria Wien), but both tries failed as they instead chose Glasgow Rangers and Panathinaikos.

"The transfer market is tough," Høgmo ascertains.

Will this mean that you will have to spend more money than first planned?

"I will not speculate in this," he replies.

In the friendly against Haugesund, Jan Gunnar Solli was placed on the right back position.

"If Christer Basma gets injured, or one of the two central defenders, we need an alternative," Høgmo states.

Robbie Russell, ridden with knee problems, is still not ready.

"Robbie still has a long way to go, physically. At the time he goes through a period of really hard training," Per-Mathias Høgmo ends.

PS! Sebastián Eguren and Alejandro Lago are still Rosenborg players formally, but permanent transfers are coming. Most likely they will be sold to the clubs that rents them; Monevideo Wanderers and Bella Vista.
