Rosenborg - Lyn 2-1
By Endre Bakken, 1 April 2008, 13:52

The opening game of the league was nerve-wrecking, something which made the victory all the sweeter.

RBK's debutants celebrated as if the league was already won, and the relief was great on the stands too.

"This felt awesome. We turn 0-1 into 2-1 and show an impeccable team morale in the second half. I'm proud of us today," Vadim Demidov told rosenborg.info

Rosenborg let Lyn get to a few goal scoring opportunities in the beginning, but gradually took over the game and were best team in the first half. Their play was far from perfect, but Fredrik Stoor among others showed will and effort. Steffen Iversen should have scored from four metres after a pass from yvind Storflor, but wasn't able to get his feet in the right position. After that Per Ciljan Skjelbred hit the keeper following an elegant one-two with Yssouf Kone.

Despite their efforts Rosenborg got an unpleasant surprise into extra time: Bjrn Tore Kvarme was lagging behind, and pulled down Kim Holmen by his shoulder. The veteran was lucky to avoid the red card. Espen Hoff sent Rune Jarstein flying in the wrong direction on the penalty.

"We could have decided the game in the first half when we had several major chances, but instead we got a goal against. That made the half time difficult," Trond Henriksen admitted.

Lyn were happy with the one-goal lead, and did not give RBK much room in the second half. The guests from Oslo were still lethal, and Holmen should have scored, after recieving the ball from Kvarme. Kone had Rosenborg's greatest chance with a header just outside the post.

The newly composed midfield consisting of Strand, Storflor, Savolainen and Skjelbred struggled since Sapara and Tettey were out with injuries. The play didn't lead anywhere, and the breadth was lacking. Didier Konan and Abdou Traore replaced the two central players, Skjelbred was put in the middle.

"We made some changes, hoping that Abdou and Didi could turn the game around. And so they did," Henriksen said.

Traore equalized with a freekick with a twist that entered the goal directly. Rosenborg kept up the pressure, and another substitute, Jo Sondre Aas, got a penalty, when he was fouled by Indridi Sigurdsson. Yssouf Kone cooly scored after just walking up to the ball.

Lyn tried their best to get even, so RBK changed to a flatter midfield. Strand was put in the middle, and became RBK's saving angel, when he, on the goal-line, prevented a shot from Odion Ighalo two minutes before full time. "Supermann" saved the day!

"This was the first game in the league, and the play hasn't been too great on the other arenas either. I think we should be happy with getting three points," Henriksen concluded.

PS! Iversen was injured, and will be out in at least three weeks.
