Rosenborg will enter the 2nd qualifying round to the Champions League. We will be seeded in the this round, but most likely not in the 3rd. We will need help from some underdogs in the bigger leagues.

Therefore I assume we will end up in the 1st round of the UEFA Cup, and then hopefully qualify for the group stage.

I hope we meet next year..But I think its a abit too early to talk about it because the one running now isn't finished yet.

You will nevertheless have to improve your performances in the Israeli league to be able to play the qualifying rounds.

And we have to improve a lot to be able to beat Maccabi again.

It's quite sad but i agree with you, we should still hope we can make the Champions League as there's nothing like it. And it would help with money for new players offcourse.

RBK will have to improve a lot though i agree, the qualifying rounds are so difficult!

Yes, thats true..I don't mind to have a year off europe as long as it doesnt continue to the next seasons. As it seems we're a bottom team in the Israeli league this year but can get far in UEFA Cup.

PostPosted: 13.01.2007 21:56    Post subject: Irish champions Shelbourne disqualified from Ch.League? Reply with quote

Maybe important for Rosenborg as they could be potential opponents in the Champions League qualifiers...

Shelbourne, who just won their 3rd championship out of 4 in the Republic of Ireland, may be disqualified from European participation due to ongoing financial problems. Shels won 3 leagues in the last 4 years but have spent above their means: expensive contracts, big transfers and high salaries, while president Ollie Byrne had to often pay club bills with hiw own private money. The president now is not really willing to donate much more private money to the club, and the clubs' further existance is in danger as the debts are quite high. The club needs money urgently, otherwise they may be disqualified from Europe due to not meeting UEFA license requirements. If so, Derry City will take their place in the Champions League qualifiers as runners-up in the league.

Shels already lost their successful manager Pat Fenlon and several key players due to salaries not being paid in time, and due to insecurity about the clubs' further existance.
I'd say if Shels manages to get their license, they will be one of the weakest teams in the CL qualifiers as they will have lost all their important players.

Derry on the other hand... I'd like Rosenborg to avoid them in the qualifiers, as they could be dangerous, they're a growing side with a fanatic support and already had a good European campaign.

Hopefully it will be the last year that we face qualifiers in this worthless tournament... Go Platini and reform as you promised. Out with the non-champions, direct qualification for domestic champions!! A team that won its league belongs in the CL and not in a qualifier, it's simply violating justice to see us in the qualifiers while the runners-up (non champions!) of some countries don't have to qualify...

Oh well, one more year and hopefully the CL will be restored to the nice tournament it was before Johansson ( Twisted Evil ) turned it into a commercial event.

Clubs in the Champions League 2007/08

The 2nd qual. round should be quite easy, with Beitar Jerusalem as the best ranked possible opponent.

Liverpool, Arsenal, Valencia etc. will be very hard draws in the 3rd round, but clubs like Anderlecht, Glasgow Rangers (just 0-0 against Molde last year!), Levski Sofia and Besiktas should be possible to beat.

Ajax also will be in the 2nd round after beating AZ 3-0 today although as FCK proved last year, they're not that good. Smile

I think RBK did very well to get past Steua last time round but it is getting more difficult each year. Hopefully we draw Glasgow Rangers as RBK would have a very good chance here.

Not only best ranked but best in that list, and don't expect an easy match if you get Beitar they have low points but they are a great team this year and they are going to buy good players for CL.

Elfsborg would be interesting, as would FH Hafnarfjardar or HB Torshavn. All that matters is progress though and the real fun starts in the next round against Liverpool, Valencia etc. Surprised

I do have a feeling that we will draw Elfsborg. Last time I felt something like this, was in 2004, when my prediction on Sheriff Tiraspol was a hit.

Still no visit from fans of our possible opponents? Cool

Rosenborg meet the winner of the duel between Rustavi (Georgia) and Astana (Kazakhstan) in the 2nd qualifying round to the Champions League.

RBK begin with away match 1 August with 2nd leg on Lerkendal 8 August.

The Olimpi Rustana and Astana fans? I am sure many of them do. However, there does not seem to be an English language version of the official web page of either team:

Astana

Olimpi Rustana

Of course, the only thing they will find on rbk.no is the message

We are currently updating the English section of RBK.no.
The section will be published during spring season 2007.

Actually there is a very good reason for no away fans: the registration process has not been working the last weeks. But now the problem should have been solved.

One of the teams was FC Tbilisi before the merger, a large enough club if i remember. I'd expect a reasonably tough game away at either those teams but if RBK get a positive result to take back to Lerkendal they should be ok.

The more Israeli teams progress, the higher the coefficient, which can come in handy next season when Haifa is back in the Euro cups Wink Great win for Santa Colombo but I cannot see them survive the return game.

Also the San Marinese teams did well: their CL team lost only 2-1 in Helsinki (so they still overcome that in the second game) and Olimpio even got a draw vs Drogheda United (Ireland)

As for RBK: I hope progress to the CL group stages and then draw Fenerbahce or Besiktas. Count me in on the stands then Tommel'n opp!
