Hello Football friends of RBK,
I have 3 qestions:
a.) What is the best and cheapest way to travel to Trondheim - any tips?
b.) Will it be easy to get tickets for the game?
c.) Where could we stay (3 or 4 persons) - any hints?
Best regards from Gelsenkirchen
Marcel

Hello there!
Here's something to start with: Staying in Trondheim
I'm considering a trip to Gelsenkirchen myself. _________________ - Jeg var i Molde ett år, og var så uheldig - eller heldig - at vi rykket ned, flirer Strand. |

Low price airline from Düsseldorf to Oslo with Norwegian or SAS.no is maybe the best.
Taking the Color Line ferry from Kiel to Oslo is a another option.
In both you then have to travel the remaining 500 km to Trondheim: travelling to our nice city |

Rune Bratseth!!
I think, it is fine to play against Rosenborg. But I also think, it won'tl be easy for us to win. (Sorry for my bad english)
So, visit Gelsenkirchen (Schalke) and taste our fantastic beer |

E.C. Dahls is our local brewery - far better than some Weissbier:
After a quite bad season so far Rosenborg hopefully have begun their usual good run in the autumn. Sadly Brann and Lillestrøm seem to stay in front of us, and a new league title for us in November is not likely.
Six years ago Rosenborg were ranked as the 35th best on the UEFA club ranking. The club wants to repeat history, but it is far to go, especially when it comes to the players. In the moment Marek Sapara (midfielder), Yssouf Kone (striker), Steffen Iversen (striker/winger) and Lars Hirschfeld (goalkeeper - ex Cottbus) are the ones to watch, while the two wingers Didier Konan (wanted by Ajax and Charlton last year) and Abdou Traoré also might cause some trouble.
After spending most of the prize monies from 10 seasons in the Champions League (1995-2002, 2004 and 2005 - video highlights!) on building a new stadium and signing expensive, bad players, Rosenborg now (again) have begun prioritizing developing own, local players. They will be well familiar to our famous 4-3-3 formation (UEFA.com lists uf before Ajax under typical 4-3-3 club teams!) and hopefully very loyal to the club as they are local lads.
Our two reserve/U19 teams, RBK2 and RBK3, are playing in regular senior leagues, Norwegian 2nd and 3rd division, and are packed with players representing Norway on U17, U18 and U19 levels. When Rosenborg knocked AC Milan out of the Champions League in 1996, 9 of 11 players in the starting line-up were from the Trondheim area. This is not likely to happen again in a globalized world of football, but hopefully the basis of future teams will be local players with a big heart for Rosenborg.
On the first team, Per Ciljan Skjelbred and Alexander Tettey, are well established on our midfield, and they are looked upon as the team's future "grand old men".
Nevertheless we need some experience too, and we have been looking for one or two new central defenders this summer. Sadly our two director of sports (Rune "der Elch" Bratseth is stepping down) have not managed to sign any. Still 23 hours left, but it like seems our quite weak defence has to do their wery best against Kevin K. & Co.
PS! Schalke will have 5 % of the tickets for this match, so it should be quite easy to buy one.
Funny thing this one by the way:

Good luck with your Gazprom deal! |

Found quite a cheap solution one way (Norwegian), but it's the day before the match:
Düsseldorf - London €10
London - Trondheim €65
The same day costs:
Düsseldorf - London €10
London - Trondheim €113
With SAS it costs about €250 incl. return (Düsseldorf - Copenhagen - Trondheim). _________________ - Jeg var i Molde ett år, og var så uheldig - eller heldig - at vi rykket ned, flirer Strand. |

Fun that Rune Bratseth is remembered, he was voted the best Norwegian player of all time here.
I also hoped Schalke 04 was going to win Bundesliga this year, and I'm pretty sure we will not have an easy task on our hands against you. We did beat Nurnberg in a practice game a few months ago, and did also beat Borussia Dortmund in Dortmund a while back, and tied Bayern München at home. so we can hope for a good result.
English newspapers were making comments about Rosenborg being semi-professional. True, some of the players are still in high school (gymnasium), but it's been a while since we became a true professional team. However, back when I went to high scool myself, rune Bratseth was in fact our fitness instructor for a year there... _________________ Svein Sjovold |

But does this flight connect at London Stanstead? I wanted to do this in July however i had to fly from Aberdeen to Gatwick. However, getting from Gatwick to Stanstead was exceptionally difficult.
Schalke fans will enjoy Trondheim although they won't get the midnight sun like i did! (I was in Burger King at 11pm in Trondheim, it was full of LSK 'Kanari' fansen. ) |

There are bus routes connecting all the London airports. While they take some time I'd say they are largely hassle-free. _________________ "Nordens, nei Nord-Europas beste lag" - Dorsin.

That depends on traffic though, which can be a nightmare there!
Anyway, you should always leave enough time between connecting flights. I always left half a day between my flights in Norge to allow for delays, thankfully there were none.
The Stanstead route is a good one, pity the two airports closest to me (Aberdeen & Inverness) only fly to Gatwick/Heathrow. |

Though I am "native Gelsenkirchener", I'm really praying for Rosenborg wins.
The one who can beat BVB can also win against Herne-West!
The draw was unbelievable - it had to be Rosenborg who comes to my city. It´s a pity that we did not got an easier group - so Schalke has to leave the EC for this season...
IMO it´s the battle S04-RBK for the UEFA-Cup-round. _________________ Hilsen fra Tyskland |

Schalke coach Mirko Slomka:
"In recent years Rosenborg have collected a lot of experience in the UEFA Champions League and retained their 4-3-3 system. Only their squad has changed. What's most important for us is to learn as much as we can about them before our game in Trondheim."

Sebastian Schmid from Gelschenkirchen shows his support at Oppdal with "S 04":

This will be a key match for the 3rd place in the group.
I don't think Chelsea will win in Spain, and therefore they will be desperate to get six points against Schalke, something they well might get. Schalke will have to win at Lerkendal to have a "decent" point score after four matches.
The question then is whether Rosenborg have the qualities to stop Schalke. If we should win one match in the group play, this is the one. |

Oppdal is by the way 120 km south of Trondheim, if there was some confusion. |

Abdou Traore @ UEFA.com:
"Schalke have already lost at home to Valencia so they need to catch up. They need to take three points back to Germany. So I think it's going to be an open game, and it's going to be close."
I think the Schalke players feel a lot more pressure than us, and this will of course be in our advantage. Right now my feeling is quite good; I don't think Schalke will win in Trondheim. |

Photos from today's match preparations: The day before kick-off
Yssouf Kone is quite surprisingly left out for the line-up tomorrow:
Lars Hirschfeld
Roar Strand - Christer Basma - Miika Koppinen - Mikael Dorsin
Marek Sapara - Vidar Riseth - Alexander Tettey
Per Ciljan Skjelbred - Steffen Iversen - Abdou Razack Traoré
The reason for this is that Kone has not been playing as well in September as in August.
Knut Törum, head coach:
"We know we're facing a great challenge. They are well-organised, physically strong, and they try to move quickly in attack, but I think we have a fair chance of winning."

Alex Tettey:
"At this stage Rosenborg will never be favourites. We feel no pressure whatsoever in Champions League matches. And now we're at home, we'll go out at Lerkendal and enjoy ourselves, trying to make it difficult for Schalke. Hopefully it will be enough on Wednesday."

Why do we raise our game for the Champions League, if only we could play like this in the league.
I thought we were unlucky tonight. For starters, the Schalke first goal was never a freekick despite our poor defending from the result. Then, Iversen misses a sitter (this after his peach at FFK) and offcourse Schalke hit RBK on the counter just as we looked like getting a deserved point.
Overall, it's a blow to our hopes of UEFA Cup football but if only Torum could get us playing like that every week, we would stroll the league. |

Many on the Norwegian board thought we played cowardly. I concur. _________________ "Nordens, nei Nord-Europas beste lag" - Dorsin.
