Rosenborg have four possibilities of playing European cup next season:

1. Finishing 5th in the league, going to the Intertoto Cup.

2. Norway winning one of the three Fair Play spots in the UEFA Cup. Rosenborg getting the place as most fair, but not qualified for the Euro cups as Viking (2005), Brann (2006) and Lillestrøm (2007) the last seasons.

3. Winning the Champions League.

4. Finishing 3rd in the UCL group stage, going to the UEFA Cup and winning it.

Razz

I think option 1 is most realistic and should be a first aim. With the nr of Intertoto winners increased to 6, we would have a realistic chance to win the Intertoto and make the proper UEFA Cup. I think we have to assure a 5th position so that we are in Europe next season.

Of course, once we have 5th place, we can always try and win the CL Razz But let's first grab that 5th place.

That Intertoto spot should be a certainty or at least 90% certain. I cannot see Lillestrøm lose to a second divisionist. You never know of course, but I think we're 90% sure to play intertoto, and we have a good chance of going to the actual UEFA Cup then. If you see that during the last seasons teams from Kazakhstan and Cyprus qualified through Intertoto, then I don't see a reason why Rosenborg would not be able to win the Intertoto.

It is the country ranking of 30/06/2007 which counts in the Intertoto Cup draw in April. Norway (i.e. Rosenborg) as number 18 will not be seeded in the 3rd round draw. This means we can meet some big shots, but there are just a few among the 11 possible opponents.

Intertoto Cup 2008
1st round: 21/22 and 28/29 June
2nd round: 5/6 and 12/13 July
3rd round: 19/20 and 26/27 July

Though it would be fun to win the Champions League, I´d rather like RBK to beat Bayern München in the UEFA-Cup-final.

The UI-Cup is not a way to the UEFA-cup that is very easy, too.
Of course, a lot of people thinking of winning the UI-Cup, but here we can meet hard opponents like Borussia Dortmund (I know we have beaten them), Bayer Leverkusen (Germany) or Tottenham, Newcastle or ManCity (England). I also know that the seasons in middle-europe even haven´t reached their half-time, but there a lot of good teams who won´t get a spot in CL or UEFA-Cup next year. Just think of the good teams that won the UI-Cup this year.

The best and easiest way would be a fair-play-spot, but that depends on a lucky hand...

I am trying to get an answer on whether we have to choice between Intertoto and the fair play draw.

The Intertoto Cup draw was in early April this year, while the Fair play draw was in early May (before the UEFA Cup final). I fear we are sticked to the Intertoto if Norway wins one of the two fair play spot in the draw.

Even if Norway wins the fair play contest, this dilemma occur; the contest finishes 30 April.

Intertoto should be interesting. (That's if we don't win the UEFA Cup. Smile)

We can win the Intertotocup as well. Our first Europeen Cup tropfè. We must get far then. The latest winner, Newcastle, won the Intertoto cup after reaching the last 8 in the UEFA-cup 2006-07.

Reaching the proper UEFA Cup would be good enough to start with Smile This year a club from Kazakhstan was amongst the teams qualifying for the UEFA Cup, so if they can do it we definitely can!

Why not the CL after beating Valencia away? Cool
Does not matter; Madrid in the CL-final or Bayern in the UEFA-cup... Wink
But to be honest: RBK is a good team, but it is hard, if we get a top-team from Germany, Spain, England - something that is absolutely possible!
Perhaps we meet Schalke again in the UI-cup... Razz
