RBK played a an excellent attacking match with great gameplay and good use of the wingmen. This resulted in 15-16 great chances. Almost all ingredients for a party night at Lerkendal were present.
Two important things lacked, tough: Goals and points.
Rosenborg was left pointless when Fredrikstad headed back south. As per Drillo's best traditions [Egil "Drillo" Olsen, now coaching FFK, has a glorious history as the manager of the international team] the southeasterners made a point-robbery seldom seen when Lars Blixt ensured the away win from the penalty mark. The right back, who didn't get his Rosenborg contract renewed last year, got the chance to score after his former competitor Christer Basma had pushed Markus Ringberg so he fell.
Another ex-Rosenborg player was however the great FFK hero of the day, nameli Steinar Sørlie. The goalkeeper, a reserve for Jørn Jamtfall in the 1997 season, was a living wall and saved everything that RBK threw at him: Shots from short and long range (including a brilliant hit from Roar Strand) and decisive headings (from Frode Johnsen and others).
"This ought to be the game of the century for him," Per Joar Hansen, who was Sørlie's coach in the Trondheim club Byåsen in the late 90s, stated.
As a result, RBK is left with merely four points after the three first league matches.
"It is not a great opening of the season. But it is as it is, and we have the points we do," Perry says.
PS 1! Ørjan Berg was back after having missed the Bodø/Glimt game last week due to a groin pull.
PS 2! Alexander Ødegaard played his first league game from the start for RBK.
