Molde - Rosenborg 4-1
By Håvard Lindheim, 21 September 2005, 08:02

Rosenborg is now crawling in a slow but steady pace towards relegation: the heavy loss for Molde was the 9th in the last 11 league games.

NOT QUITE: Referee Staberg sends an astonished Micke Dorsin off just before half time.

MOLDE (rosenborg.info): "One thing must be crystal clear: It is my responsibility that we lose games in the Tippeliga, and noone else's," Per-Mathias Høgmo stated in the corridor outside the guest's changing room.

The home team got a great start when Roar Strand lost the ball, and Daniel Berg Hestad could lob it in with elegance - after one minute's play.

In spite of the early lead, Molde didn't dominate the game, and Rosenborg lead the gameplay for 70 minutes. In the first half, Per Ciljan Skjelbred was closest to a score when he was played through and struck the ball into the post - and out.

In extra time before the break, the most discussed situation of the match arose: Referee Per Ivar Staberg felt that Mikael Dorsin on purpose stopped a Molde shot with the arm, after the ball had first hit his stomack; but the Swede's arm did not 'go for the ball' and was close to his torso. In other words, a dubious red card and penalty, that Matej Mavric scored on.

"I can't comment this situation. I didn't see it properly, and haven't seen the TV pictures either," Høgmo says.

Ståle Stensaas was put in during the break, due to Dorsin's red card and the fact that Bjørn Tore Kvarme had problems with the old inguinal stretch. He got an early chance to reduce, on a free kick from 20 metres, and shot the ball low and in by the close post.

The other substitute, Daniel Braaten, did lead the troops from the front, and Rosenborg continued the positive play. For some time, RBK fired shot after shot - Jan Gunnar Solli was closest with a ball hitting the post, but no success.

Instead, Rob Friend grabbed the chance when his marking man Frode Johnsen didn't follow him, and headed in 3-1.

"We cannot make such personal errors. When we follow someone, we cannot allow ourselves to let them go free," Høgmo states.

At this point, the battle was in reality over for RBK, and Petter Rudi got a very simple goal just thereafter. The sixth league loss in a row, the ninth in eleven games, was a fact.

In spite of the 11th place with only two points down to Bodø/Glimt and three down to Tromsø, who both have one game less played, Høgmo chose to view the positive aspects of the situation:

"We have five matches left, three of which are at home. We can control this ourselves. There are 15 points to be fought for, and we can end up at 36 points. We have that capacity," Høgmo ascertains.

PS 1! Thorstein Helstad was suspended due to three yellow cards.
PS 2! The loss was historical in several ways: Never before, RBK has lost six league games in a row, and Molde hadn't beaten RBK at home since 1992.
