"Of course RBK is tempting to me. It is the team with the biggest potential in Norway," Rushfeldt pointed out in an interview with TV2.
His return to Lerkendal was close to becoming a reality earlier this summer, but the 32-year-old decided to stay at Austria Wien. His contract with the Austrians expires this summer and during the winter break Rushfeldt will decide where to continue his carreer.
He does not exlude that he might continue at Austria, but the offers from Norway are plentiful.
"Yes, many clubs have contacted me. About six or seven of them. I have barely spoken with Lyn, Vålerenga, Lillestrøm, Start, Tromsø and lastly with Rosenborg," Sigurd Rushfeldt told Dagbladet.
Rushfeldt was the most expensive player in Norwegian football when RBK bought him from Tromsø for 1.16m Euros in 1997. Rosenborg's money were well-spent and the man from Vadsø scored 67 league goals during the 66 matches he played, until he was sold to Racing Santander in Spain for 3.86m Euros in the summer of 1999.
That transfer unfortunately led to much trouble, because Rushfeldt, together with his lawyers, claimed that 25% of the transfer fee, 965,000 Euros, belonged to him. Rosenborg, on the other hand, insisted that the player had disclaimed this demand, that originally was intended for an earlier, but cancelled transfer to Benfica. In a later meeting that took place in January of 2001, the parts came to an agreement and Rushfeld got 515,000 Euros.
Therefore many people found it surprising when RBK decided to loan him for three months the very same year. "Rush" also scored many times back then, but due to a transfer fee of 2.57m Rosenborg declined to buy him back. Instead Rushfeldt was loaned out and later sold to Austria Wien.
