NAC Breda - Rosenborg 1-0
By Endre Bakken, 20 July 2008, 06:29

An injury riddled RBK-team lost due to a mistake by Rune Jarstein. Still, chances are good for an aggregate win at Lerkendal.

The absence of knee injured Vadim Demidov and Kris Stadsgaard resulted in Andreas Nordvik starting his second game in a row after having been out with an injury all of the spring season. Steffen Iversen had to throw in the towel during warm up due to his leg. The situation only got worse when Yssouf Koné also got injured and was substituted right before half time.

After having tried a diamond formation with Marek Sapara in a central position the last two games, the Slovak was moved out on the left flank while Roar Strand started on the opposite side. Per Ciljan Skjelbred was reunited with Alexander Tettey in the center, and the two won the war of the midfield.

The home team played in a 3-4-3-formation and was forced to send long passes to their strikers. Right wing Anthony Lurling and fast Matthew Amoah were always creating trouble before half time, and were responsible for the leading goal: Jarstein wasn't able to hold a bad shot from Lurling, and Amoah rolled the rebound into the net.

Because Skjelbred and Tettey fought well on the midfield, NAC were never able to own the game. Rosenborg decent on several counterattacks, and Koné shot one right outside the post before he had to quit.

After the pause RBK improved, and Marek Sapara had to shots right above the bar on a free kick and following a corner.

Nordvik and Alejandro Lago were giants in the mid defence, and took care of whatever NAC's attempts. The duels RBK didn't win, were decide by the ref, who was kind to RBK.

The frustration of not being able to play well, in addition to fighting with the judge made NAC often just keep the ball in the team without trying much. They were allowed to do that without being bothered. Rosenborg without their regular strikers were useless in front of the goal, and Roar Strand was ther one who got closest to an equalizer.

The match died out after 1-0, and all of RBK's injuries considered they should be content with the result against last year's bronze medalist in the Dutch premier league.
