George aktuell for Vitesse

George in Vitesse's spotlight
Saturday, Christer George travels abroad to test himself. The club to visit is Ducth Vitesse Arnheim.

Neither George himself nor Rosenborg Sports Director Rune Bratseth wants to confirm what club George is visiting, but from what Adresseavisen experiences it is Vitesse Arnheim, a club that occupies the 7th spot in the Ducth top league at the moment.

"What I can say is that I am travelling south to show myself in a club that wants to see me. More than that I won't comment," George says.

"I cannot comment this," Bratseth says.

Before Christmas, George was given the message that Rosenborg won't go for him in the future, and that he as a consequence was allowed to find himself a new employer. If he manages to convince Vitesse coach Edward Sturing, he'll follow players like Erik Nevland (Groningen), Pa Modou-Kah (Roda JC) and Daniel Berg Hestad (Heerenveen) in Dutch football.

This is also the reason why Christer George won't join the team when Rosenborg travels down to the Canary Islands this weekend.

Thanks for your help.

How is he? At which position? Wings?

We have a little problem on the wings but the centrum of the midfield is full.

Well, hm. He himself want to be an attacker. He spent last season in Spanish club Cordoba - where he was used in several different positions, despite being promised a role as central forward.

In Rosenborg, he has partly played right wing and right attacking midfielder. He is definitely not a central midfielder. If your right side is a little weak (either middle right or front right) he's your man. I guess he's quite able on the left as well, tough he'd probably have to turn more inwards to shoot.

Moves a lot; good sense for the game; offensive; experienced. (67 matches/12 goals for Rosenborg; several Champions League visits.) Some spectacular goals and a few spectacular wide shots ...

Most RBK fans would like to see him continue playing for us, but alas, our coaches doesn't see him as a man we need right now.

Christer George has been a promising footballer for several years, but he has not been able to "take it to the next level". He came to Rosenborg as an upcoming striker a few years ago, having scored a number of goals in his previous club. In my opinion, George has failed to live up to the expectations that both the club and the fans had when he came. His greatest qualities are perhaps speed and finishing technique, but he lacks positioning skills, dribbling skills and the football-mind needed to play at a high level. Still, I wish him all the best......

You might have discovered them already in the Norwegian forum, martwout, but here are some George goals:

27.04.2003: Lyn - Rosenborg 0-3
0-2: Christer George

10.05.2003: Viking - Rosenborg 0-2
0-1: Christer George

24.10.2000: Paris St. Germain - Rosenborg 7-2
3-1: Christer George
3-2: Christer George

I think Eredivisie can be a good league for "Georgie". The last years quite a few Norwgians have ended up there: Daniel Berg Hestad, André Hanssen, Erik Nevland and Pa-Modou Kah.

Thanks for the images. I have put the links on the Vitesse forum: http://p080.ezboard.com/f...1&stop;=255

Are there also some images from 2004?

George has trained today by Vitesse and is going with the team to Turkey. I hope that he will play at the Efes Pilsen Cup. Vitesse is participating in this tournament which will be broadcasted on Eurosport (I don't know if you are able to receive that channel). This friday is the first match against Malmo (19.00 our time).

You are talking about videos of goals, right? If so, no. As mentioed earlier in this thread, George was on loan to Spanish Segunda club Cordoba from August 2003 to July 2004. After returning, he just has scored once: He was the matchwinner in 2-1 win against Sheriff Tiraspol in the Champions League qualifyers. Sadly I don't have a video clip of the goal, but here's a picture of him celebrating the goal: icon_wink.gif

275) {this.width=275}" style="cursor: hand" onclick="javascript:window.open('http://cache.aftenposten.no/multimedia/archive/00211/sp54c142_1039572_jp_211462h.jpg')" title="http://cache.aftenposten.no/multimedia/archive/00211/sp54c142_1039572_jp_211462h.jpg" border="0"/>

After returning from Spain, George has played both midfielder and winger - as he did in his first period at Rosenborg. The last weeks, after he was transferlisted by Rosenborg, he has said that he mainly wants to play up front, but this summer he said the opposite:

"My wish is to play at the midfield," Christer George said.

Read more: "Spaniards played Drillo style" (big interview, worth reading!)

I'm one of apparently few supporters who think it's wrong of Rosenborg transferlisting George. Eventhough he wasn't a regular on the team this autumn, I think he should have stayed.

There are two main reasons:

1. Rosenborg are lack of midfielders, and should not let midfield alternatives go.

2. As said, Christer George returned to Rosenborg in July. "Sacking" him after just six months is wrong. He should have been given at least six months more trying to get a place in the team.

I personally think George will give you Vitesse supporters much joy.

By the way, I don't think this is mentioned earlier: George will be very inexpensive, maybe Vitesse can get him for free.

New Rosenborg coach Per Joar Hansen says this about transferlisted Christer George and Torjus Hansén:

"Rosenborg do not want to block their further careers. Weither we will let them go for free or not, we will have to see. Both Torjus and Christer are good players that should be able to enter any squad in the Tippeliga," Hansen says.

I think over 50% of Norwegian homes have EuroSport on cable or satelite TV. icon_wink.gif It is however said that George will join the Vitesse camp first on Saturday. Therefore he won't play the game against the Swedish champions.

No, he's already in Arnhem. He's trained with the team and is already flying tomorrow from here to Turkey. Some supporters have seen him in Papendal (the ground where Vitesse is training.

Yes. I mention video's of 2004.

Oh, I didn't know.

It was local Trondheim newspaper Adresseavisen which claimed that George would join you on Saturday.

Now we'll have to see if George will play against Malmö. icon_wink.gif

NB! Does any Dutch media (website) say anything about this? Please post the links, eventhough I just understand some Dutch.

Everybody here is hoping for it. I'm going to a new years-evening of the supporters association of Vitesse which is going to show the match on a screen.

I suppose you don't mind that the url's are also on www.vitesse.org? I'm a member of that site and have made a message about the goals. icon_smile.gif

Fun to know: Christer George is a devoted rap artist:

His first rap group was So Called Negros, where the three members were Christer (aka Mayor), his twin brother Michael (aka Daddan) and their bigger brother "Ogo Redskin" (can't find his real name in the hurry).

They existed for some years and managed to release an album, which didn't sell that much, before they "retired".

Now Christer and twin brother Michael are back on track, with a new duo: The Outfit

They haven't released any single or album yet, only a mixtape, "The stink of the street: The mixtape". Nevertheless they have managed to get the music video from one of the beats, "Poemclapz", in rotation on Norwegian music channel ZTV - a bit impressive, I think.

To satisfy their fans, they have made three of the beats available for downloading:

- Poemclapz
- So Much Better
- U Don't Rap U

Enjoy!

There are some strange things going on. The player was seen, a dutch site was reporting about him.

But today Vitesse reported officially that He's not coming to test and he was never an option. It's being denied that he was ever in the picture. Very strange.

I think that it's a game played by the team. Are there any new news in the newspaper or other media in Norway?

No, the latest news were that he should travel to your camp on Saturday.

Ï think this sounds very strange. George was in Arnhem yesterday, but the club wouldn't confirm it?

I think George is together with Vitesse. My contact in Algemeen Dagblad, Ramon Min, says this:

"According to reports in Holland, Christer George is on a trial with Vitesse. But strangely enough the official website of the Arnhem club doesn't mention that.

I'll try to ask around a bit more."

Me and Ramon have had some contact the last years. He earlier wrote about Scandinavian football for Voetbal International, and then we spoke to eachother much often.

Not he has to concentrate on Vitesse and your "colleagues" in Eredivisie.

After I've been seeing Vitesse playing against our nabours Malmö tonight, I think Christer George can do a better job! Losing 6-0 to a swedish team is nothing to be proud of! icon_wink.gif

George avventer Arnhem-tur

George awaits Arnhem-trip
Even though Trøndersk media has claimed otherwise; Christer George has not gone to Vitesse Arnhem for trial yet. Although he wants to.

On hold
Christer George awaits the interest from Vitesse, in the meantime he keeps fit in the capital (Oslo).
"I hope I'll get the oppotrunity to go down there, but it is important to me that the interest is definite. I don't have time to go down there and just "look around", January is all I've got", George says to VG.

That's why this weekend's announced trip to Vitesse Arnhem was postponed/put off. Instead the 25-year-old awaits a definite offer from the club that currently holds 7th position in the Dutch Premiership.

There has been som confusion in Trøndersk media the past week as to where George has been. Adresseavisen first announced the original schedule, then RbkWeb.com disclaimed this information: "The Rosenborg-player already is in Holland"

Fact is that he has been in Oslo all the time.
"I don't know where they've got this from. I've been here all the time", he says in despair.

Before Christmas Rosenborg told him his services were no longer wanted. After returning from Cordoba (Spanish 2nd division) late last summer, he only had a few appearances for Rosenborg last fall.

He dreams of playing as a striker - in Holland: "They play a kind of football that suits me, I really want to give it a shot down there", George says.

Lillestrøm-interest
His first priority is to try his luck in Europe while he has the chance, the financial aspect is a critical factor too, of course. If he hasn't found a new club when the transfer market closes, he will start looking around for a new Norwegian club.
"Lillestrøm has contacted me, but there are also other clubs that have contacted Rosenborg"

PS! On Friday Vitesse lost 6-0 against Malmø in Turkey, not affecting the Oslo-boy. "All teams take a beating every now and then", George says.

It seems like quite a few was tricked by some Vitesse fans. The thing with George training with the club, and travelling to Turkey was just bullshit.

George now says that he maybe will make a trip to Arnhem, but only if the interest from Vitesse is very strong and concrete:

"I just have some weeks left of the international transfer window and can't waste my time," he states.

In addition to Vitesse, Norwegian clubs Lillestrøm and Start and Swedish GIF Sundsvall are interested in the transfer listed Rosenborg player.

Plymouth instead of Vitesse?

According to Norwegian media, George is on trial at Plymouth Argyle this week:

"Christer George's hunt for a new club continues. These days he is showing his skills in Plymouth.

George has been told by Rosenborg to find himself a new club, and it is because of this he is travelling around visiting different clubs.

This week he is in Plymouth. If his trial does not result in a contract offer, George then will go on trial at Swedish club Djurgården."
